Our Legislative Luck? Hard Work.

March 2026
Environmental progress at the Connecticut Capitol doesn’t happen by chance. It happens because members testify. Because coalition partners organize. Because legislators listen. And because supporters like you take action when it matters most.
From advancing climate accountability to modernizing pesticide reporting, defending energy efficiency, increasing access to solar power, funding thermal energy networks, and strengthening waste reduction programs, the Sierra Club Connecticut legislative team is hard at work.
Climate Accountability: Making Polluters Pay
Connecticut communities are facing rising costs from flooding, extreme weather, and climate-driven infrastructure damage. This session, we’re pushing forward legislation to ensure fossil fuel corporations are held accountable for their role in the climate crisis, instead of shifting the financial burden onto taxpayers.

During the February 20 public hearing there were over 160 written pieces of testimony in support of H.B. 5156 An Act Concerning a Climate Change Superfund

We hosted a press conference on the climate impacts to the state—check out the video recording.

Now, we need your help! Ask your legislator to Co-Sponsor H.B. 5156 by sending an email using this template and signing this petition.

Protecting Wildlife & Modernizing Pesticide Reporting
North America has lost nearly 3 billion birds since 1970, and in Connecticut, species are increasingly vulnerable to climate change and habitat loss.
We’re supporting legislation to modernize pesticide reporting; increase transparency; and better protect ecosystems, pollinators, and public health. Accurate reporting strengthens enforcement, informs policy decisions, and helps researchers in their practices.
Strong environmental protections require strong data—H.B. 5155 helps ensure we have it!
Increasing Access to Renewable Energy
While the Trump Administration is clawing back support for renewable energy, Connecticut must fight back. Bills in the legislature will streamline solar permitting to make going solar simpler for households and open up access to smaller solar projects like plug-in solar.
Behind every bill advancing so far this session are members who: submitted testimony, contacted legislators, showed up to hearings, and helped amplify the message.
That’s not luck. That’s organized power.
As we head deeper into the legislative session, negotiations intensify and opposition voices grow louder. Your engagement continues to make the difference.
🍀 What’s Next
Committee votes and more public hearings are happening in the coming weeks and will determine which bills advance.
You can watch our bill tracker throughout the legislative session, and stay tuned for updates and opportunities for action.
