Make Polluters Pay: Week of Action + 2026 Legislative Session Begins
Julianna Larue
February 2026

The 2026 legislative session kicks off on February 4, and it’s shaping up to be a critical moment for climate and environmental action in Connecticut. We’d love for you to be part of it.
We’ve set our priorities for the year, and there are many ways for members to get involved, from taking action at the Capitol to connecting with fellow Sierra Club members and helping advance bold climate solutions.
Our Legislative Committee is the best place to plug in if you want to help move policy forward this session.
Check out our 2026 priorities and explore our bill tracker to see what speaks to you as we work toward a cleaner, healthier Connecticut for all.
Some of our top priorities for the 2026 session include:
-
Making Polluters Pay by passing a Climate Superfund to hold fossil fuel corporations accountable, and establishing core funding for climate resilience;
-
Increasing access to clean and renewable energy by securing funding for Thermal Energy Networks and easing barriers to energy efficiency and solar energy;
-
Reducing waste and stopping the expansion of new incinerators in Connecticut.
Make Polluters Pay Week of Action!!
Last week, we kicked off our Make Polluters Pay Week of Action with a powerful rally at the Capitol. Nearly 100 people braved the cold to stand up for our environment and our communities. Thank you to everyone who attended and persevered through the freezing cold.
Together, we demanded accountability from fossil fuel companies that knew for decades their products were causing the climate crisis, and yet left our communities to pay the price for increasingly frequent and costly climate-driven disasters.
The Center for Climate Integrity recently released a new 14-page memo detailing the growing costs of climate change to Connecticut. It makes clear just how expensive inaction has become for our state and our residents.

We’ve already collected 500 petition signatures in just a few months, can we reach 1,000 before the public hearing on the Climate Superfund?
