The Connecticut Chapter has a volunteer leadership board called the Executive Committee (ExCom), which oversees and approves the work of staff, committees, and groups. Nominations from our at-large membership for open seats on the ExCom can be submitted to the Nominating Committee until October 1, 2026 for the annual autumn election.

 

The Sierra Club is unusual in the nonprofit realm in that much of the work is volunteer driven. Members in good standing have the opportunity to nominate themselves or another Sierra Club member for a two year term on the ExCom, beginning January 1, 2027 and ending on December 31, 2028. The Connecticut Chapter is intentionally recruiting women, youth, people of color, and non-binary folks, as we challenge ourselves to become an inclusive and more representative organization.

Interested but not ready for a leadership role? Many of our volunteer leaders start by joining a Committee, such as Wildlife or Conservation. It doesn’t take long to get involved with a friendly group who share your passion for the environment. We need you!

 

ELECTION CALENDAR for 2026-2027 ExCom terms

• Publish written notice of key election dates in Summer Edition of our newsletter: August 1, 2026 

• Deadline to submit names to Nominating Committee for consideration: October 1, 2026 

• Nominating Committee reports nominees to Executive Committee: October 21, 2026 Ex Com meeting

*A member may petition to be on the ballot if they are not nominated by the Nominating Committee. * 

• Deadline to submit petitions to secretary (or Executive Committee Designee): November 5, 2026

• Election materials mailing: E-ballot to be sent on November 29, 2026; mailed ballot delivered by November 28, 2026. 

• Closing date of election:  December 31, 2026 

• Election Committee counts valid ballots and notifies candidates, ExCom, and other interested parties of result: First week of January 2027
