September 16 Deadline: Tell DEEP to Reject Permits to Expand Brookfield Methane Gas Pipeline Facility
Samantha Dynowski
September 2025

Thank you for your advocacy to stop the expansion of the Brookfield Compressor station. Over the last two years, hundreds of Sierra Club members like you have joined together to learn about the harmful impacts of gas facilities like the Brookfield Compressor Station—you’ve signed petitions, you’ve made phone calls to Governor Lamont and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), and more. Now, we are asking you to speak up again.
Connecticut DEEP is accepting public comments on its tentative decision to issue permits to expand the Brookfield compressor station. If approved, the Brookfield compressor station will double the turbines at the facility and push an additional 125 million cubic feet of methane gas per day through the pipeline.
DEEP needs to hear from you about why you oppose expanding gas, and this facility in Brookfield:
-
It's bad for the climate – We must reduce greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the devastating impacts of climate change, not increase them.
-
It's bad for clean air – Fairfield County has the worst air quality on the east coast, DEEP must decrease air pollution, not add more.
-
Connecticut doesn’t need or use the gas – The gas travels through Connecticut to New York on a pipeline that runs through New Milford, Brookfield, Newtown, Monroe, Shelton, and Milford.
-
We deserve better – Our safety, health and climate future should matter more than a giant energy company’s desire to profit.
Comments are due by September 16; comments should be sent to james.grillo@ct.gov. Your comments make a difference. We’ve developed this comment guide to help you draft and submit your comments.
