Ways to Support the Connecticut Chapter

September 2026

You make a cleaner, greener, safer future possible in Connecticut. With every dollar donated, hour volunteered, and message sent, you get us closer to our shared goals: bringing in more affordable renewable energy, stopping dangerous polluting corporations, and ensuring more people than ever can get outside.

There are several ways to support the work of the Connecticut Chapter besides making a one-time donation via a check or online. Depending on your personal giving goals and finances, you may wish to consider other ways to donate. Here are a few ways to give you may not have thought of—some bring additional tax benefits, as well.

Make a gift of stock: Giving stock can be a tax-wise way to support the Connecticut Chapter. You can find simple electronic transfer instructions at Stock Gift to the Sierra Club. Include "Connecticut Chapter” as the purpose of your gift to support local work!

Give from your IRA: If you are 70 1⁄2 or older, you can make a tax-free charitable distribution directly from your IRA to support the Connecticut Chapter. IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions are a way to support Sierra Club Foundation as a qualifying charity without incurring federal income tax liability. If you are 73 or older, this can also help you to meet your required minimum distribution. These gifts only support our charitable activities like educational forums about pressing environmental issues in our state and getting folks outdoors for bioblitzes, bird watching, and hiking.

Give from your Donor Advised Fund: If you have a Donor Advised Fund, recommend a grant to Sierra Club Foundation to support the Connecticut Chapter. Make sure to specify that the gift is designated to the Connecticut Chapter. As above, these gifts support charitable educational forums and nature-based activities.

Include the Connecticut Chapter in your will: A few sentences is all it takes to include the Connecticut Chapter in your will or trust. You can also name the Chapter as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, IRA, donor advised fund, or life insurance policy. These gifts have no impact on your budget now, and mean the world to those who will carry on our work long into the future. Reach out to Julia Curtis at julia.curtis@sierraclub.org if you’d like to learn more.

No matter how you choose to give, your donation helps keep our air and water clean; protect our wild places; work with leaders to ensure equitable, safe, and healthy communities; curb climate change and build more resilient communities; and build a clean energy future.  More on all the ways you can support the Connecticut Chapter of the Sierra Club can be found here.
