If you’re 70½ or older, your IRA can do more than just grow—it can help protect Connecticut’s wild places, climate and communities.

Are you making any year-end updates to your annual IRA withdrawal strategy? Consider a charitable donation to Sierra Club Foundation - Connecticut Chapter through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions, also referred to as Charitable IRA Rollovers or IRA QCDs, are a way to support without incurring federal income tax liability. If you are 70 ½ or older, you can give up to $108,000 in tax-free charitable distributions annually from your IRA directly. If you are 73 or older, it can help you to meet your minimum distribution requirement.

You can support projects like our environmental and climate education webinars, efforts to Save Remington Woods, or our campaign for a fossil-free Capitol Area System—all while reducing your federal income tax liability. Win-win!

How To Make a Gift:

To make a gift from your IRA to the Sierra Club Foundation, contact your IRA administrator. Instruct your broker to make a charitable distribution to Sierra Club Foundation, and include “Connecticut Chapter” on the memo line. Request that your name and address be included with the check so that Sierra Club Foundation can accurately record your gift and thank you.

Sierra Club Foundation

2101 Webster Street, Suite 1350

Oakland, CA 94612

Remember that in order to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution, the gift must go directly from your IRA to Sierra Club Foundation. If you deposit funds and write a personal check, it will increase your taxable income.
