ICO is a 100 percent
volunteer program. Our volunteer leaders are trained in outdoor skills,
first aid and environmental education. ICO trip leaders and assistant
leaders work with their assigned groups of children on a consistent
basis, taking one outdoor trip a month, preceded by a pre-trip meeting.
ICO volunteers work to establish strong, on-going relationships with
ICO participants and their communities, seeking to make a permanent
difference in the lives of children and others. Volunteers who choose
not to become leaders or assistant leaders provide equally important
administrative support and/or often participate on outings as additional
"warm bodies." Monthly meetings are held where volunteers get a chance
to share experiences and learn new skills.
What Can you do to help ICO? Be a volunteer leader, assistant
leader or participate when you can on Outings. Provide administrative
support. (Administrative support includes help with fundraising, publicity,
environmental education programming, workshops and special events. See
