Requirements for Certification as an Inner City Outings
Leader
1. Be a member of the Sierra Club
(introductory membership is $25).
2. Be certified in CPR with current
card (good for two years).
3. Have current Red Cross or other
acceptable first aid training (good for 2-3 years).
4. Sign ICO ethics form and
volunteer agreement.
5. Participate in ICO leader
training, read training manual.
6. Pass police and motor vehicle
background checks.
7. If renting a van, get
specialized license (no special test, just fill out forms).
8. Participate in three ICO trips,
taking on more responsibility each time.. Commitment to participate in
ongoing training.
We require new leaders to pay for their own Sierra Club membership, tests
and registrations. Once a new leader leads 6 trips with ICO, the
organization will reimburse all but the Sierra Club membership fee.
